President Jimmy Carter, in office from 1977 to 1981, was the 39th president of the United States, and has also enjoyed a successful career after politics as an author, university lecturer, and head of nonprofit organization The Carter Institute, for whose work he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. His other works include Keeping Faith and An Hour Before Daylight.
